| It is a fully automated system, never resting, working around the clock, accurately and immediately pinpointing the position of a forest fire and significantly reducing the time necessary to report and fight it. Every forest fire is a crisis, but with ForestWatch, it needn't be a catastrophe. On 7 February 2009, bushfires ravaged Victoria; 430,000 hectares and 2,000 homes were burned and 173 people died in some of the worst wildfires in living memory. ForestWatch cannot prevent wildfires from starting, but this system significantly improves the chance of stopping them before they can cause significant damage to land, lives and the environment. |
